Date were introduced into California by the Spaniards in 1765. The medjool date palm variety was first imported into the USA from the Bou Denib Oasis in Morocco in 1927. Date shakes are not as good as they sound but at the corner store in Westmoreland it's pretty much all you can buy when you are starving from only having beer for breakfast. You will need the nourishment for the long wait at the border check point on the road to Mexicali.
